Enabling Macros in Excel

Excel will need to be set to 'Enable Macros' for the spreadsheets to work. The 2007 version of Excel has a different procedure to previous versions.

Pre 2007 Excel

  1. If the spreadsheet .xls file is open, close it.
  2. On the Tools menu, point to Macro and click Security.
  3. In the Security dialog box, click the Security Level tab.
  4. Click Medium and then click OK.
  5. Open the spreadsheet .xls file. When prompted whether to enable or disable macros, click Enable Macros.

2007 Excel

  1. If the spreadsheet .xls file is open, close it.
  2. Click the Office Button in the top left hand corner of the screen.
  3. Click Excel Options at the bottom.
  4. On the left hand side choose Trust Center
  5. And then on the right hand side click Trust Center Settings.
  6. On the left hand side choose Macro Settings.
  7. Select Disable all macros with notification, this is equivalent to the Medium setting in previous versions.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Open the spreadsheet .xls file.
  11. On the Security Warning.. Macros have been disabled line click Options.
  12. Select Enable this content.
  13. Click OK.
