Nostell Bridge

Nostell Bridge

Listed as a Grade II Structure in 1968

The bridge carries the A638 Doncaster to Wakefield road over a lake in Nostell Park.
The five eliptical shaped stone arches contain weirs, and a sliuce in the centre arch controls the water levels in the Upper and Middle Lakes at the Priory.

Records show that Sir George Savile designed the bridge in 1761, and it was built by John Watson of Wakefield (Surveyor of Bridges to the West Riding) and John Croft of Calverley, resident engineer of Aire and Calder Navigation.
